how people might use an interactive landscape forum

stories of how it works

The aim of our design activities was to find strategies to help reconnect people with their landscape. If we take that people engage in landscape through a concept of place and that that concept of place is based on identity and knowing we must foster that knowing in order to engage people with their landscape. People need forums to share, accumulate and discuss this knowledge in order to develop a self identity with the place and a shared understanding of it. When people feel they know a place they have a certain ownership of it and engagement with it.
Question: How might we structure and convey information in order to communicate issues of place?
A ‘Virtual’ System
The first stage in this for us was to examine the potential of a virtual forum. Our first design activities were then in the shaping of a brief and the idea for a digital system of information about the place. We are not specialists in media and we do not have all the skills to bring a media solution to fruition we do, as architecture students, have an understanding of place and the identity of place and the design skills to try and describe the system that we see is needed.

We believed that the speaking land collection should not be about communicating a single message but about providing the means to explore the landscape and discover the places.
