Demarco Archive Gallery

My Honours project, for an exhibition centre for the DeMarco Archive, was centered around working with the urban context of Leith and the contribution such a project could make to the area.
The site was selected as part of a group strategy to emphasise pedestrian links between the Leith waterfront and the foot of Leith walk and to address head-on Leith’s tower blocks as a move to reconcile them with the rest of the urban fabric.
The basic move was an extension of the terraces around the existing tower block creating a new, more desirable, urban space and underneath this the accomodation for gallery and archive spaces.
The edges of the terrace are designed as a series of work, retail, and entertainment spaces extending the street life of the shore area.
